Differential thermal analysis of commercial and dental waxes.

چکیده
Since phase changes generally result in dimensional changes, the temperatures at which the phase changes occur in waxes and the influence of adding one wax to another are important in understanding the behavior of waxes. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) offers a useful tool in the study of phase transitions. This study examines the temperature of phase transitions for various commercial, dental, and combined waxes. This investigation was supported by USPHS Research Grant DE-01234 from the National Institute of Dental Research, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md. Presented at the 45th General Meeting of the IADR, Washington, D.C., March 18, 1967.

Calorimetric analysis of commercial and dental waxes.
Dental waxes are often a blend of several waxes that are necessary to develop the most desirable qualities. In general, more information is available on physical properties and manipulation of dental waxes than on the composition or nature of the ingredients. Since heats of transition are fundamental in characterizing the chemical nature of matter, this information was obtained from waxes and b...

Differential thermal analysis and calorimetric analysis of commercial and dental waxes have been reported in the dental literature."2 Thermogravimetric analysis is described in most textbooks on thermal analysis3-5 and is essentially a method of measuring the weight of a sample as a function of temperature or as a function of time at a fixed temperature. The purpose of this study was to examine...

Thermomechanical analysis (TMA) measures the mechanical response of a material as it is programmed linearly through a selected temperature range.' The techniques used in TMA include linear expansion, volumetric expansion, tensile elongation, torsional modulus, and penetration. Comparison of TMA penetration curves with curves of transition temperatures obtained from differential thermal analysis...
متن کاملThermal analysis of dental impression waxes.
Ten dental impression waxes were characterized by penetration and differential thermal analysis. Penetration and initial transition temperatures were directly correlated. Penetration at 37 C ranged from 2.5 to 22% for bite waxes and was 100% for corrective waxes. Distortion of an impression wax may occur upon removal from the mouth.
متن کاملCharacterization and analysis of waxes by differential thermal analysis.
The characterization of waxes by differential thermal analysis is described. An endothermic peak at 475-480 degrees is characteristic of microcrystalline and polyethylene waxes, and measurement of its area provides a method for the estimation of these waxes in mixtures.
